Laredo Spain

Laredo is one of the "four coastal towns" along with San Vicente , Castro Urdiales and Santander . It appears in the Cantigas of Alfonso X the Wise and Don Quijote also mentioned in describing his lineage. It was a royal port for union with Europe. Nestling between the Treto estuary and Santoña bay is one of the main tourist resorts no longer the coast of Cantabria, but throughout the Spanish coast. The villa extends into three distinct sectors: the Puebla Vieja and Arrabal, the Eixample area, and the extension thereof to the Puntal. The first one, the Puebla Vieja and Arrabal (edified later), was declared a historical artistic in 1970. It is the original nucleus of population with origins in the Middle Ages, and still retains traces of its ancient walls. It is a maze of alleys, called rúas, including notable houses of the sixteenth rise to XVIII, like family Sea, the Marquesa de Arcentales, the Condestable, the de Hoz, Gutiérrez Rada ... atop this village the Gothic church of the Assumption, built between the thirteenth and eighteenth centuries and houses inside the altarpiece of Bethlehem, one of the jewels of polychrome sculpture stands flamenco. The second zone of the current settlement of Laredo is known as the Eixample (flat area to the Plaza de Carlos V), where today the commercial, administrative and service center is located. Among the widening and old Puebla are the two major ports of the Villa, fishing from where they leave the sea every day boats out to sea in search of fresh fish from the Cantabrian Sea, and the new Marina of Laredo , a modern facility with more than 850 berths and all the services of a marine reference. Finally, between the Plaza de Carlos V and Puntal, three long avenues that run parallel, flanked by two beaches of the town are located. In them a large number of residences (some of which correspond to the urban boom of the 60s) and rising hospital. In this area they have been built in recent years various parks and squares in which emphasizes its commitment to art. At the end of this area it stands in the Puntal, the Yacht Club, a pioneer promoter of tourism in Laredo and expert organizer of the highest sailing competitions. But the true heritage of Laredo lies in its exceptional nature: on one side, Regatón beach, which is deployed in the inner area of the estuary of Treto; on the other, the fantastic set of beach and dunes that form the so - called " Salvé " facing the Cantabrian Sea, and has the distinction of "Q" quality. Among its festivals, Laredo especially noted for celebrating the last Friday of August, the " Batalla de Flore s" is of national interest and is starring a parade of floats. We must also make special mention of the party Carlos V Landings, which is of regional tourist interest and the second half of September is celebrated. Its cuisine specializes in fish (bonito, sardines, anchovies, etc.).
